Continued from Part 1
8.Cowboys are Real
Cowboys are typically seen as people who used to live in the Wild West years and years ago. I honestly think that my grandfather was one of the last American cowboys. While, I wills till continue to this this, I have learned that cowboys are still real! Every once in a while, I will see an old man sporting leather cowboy boots, a blue pair of Wrangler jeans, a button down shirt, a weathered, leather belt, a leather vest, a cowboy hat, a grown out beard, and skin weathered and tan like the leather. I didn’t think people still dressed like this besides for show! This is someone’s real life outfit! I am always astonished to see people like this because I don’t see them regularly. They look like their straight off a horse in ye old west! Students even wear cowboy boots daily! It’s something else.
9. People still pressure you.
I don't drink for multiple reasons, and I was under the impression that people don't pressure people in college. I was wrong. People still tried to pressure me. Obviously, I didn't fall to that, but people pressuring others is still prevalent and college, so just stand firm in your beliefs.
10.Being Alone
I have also learned to be alone. Not alone in a sad way, but just not having anyone you know around you. Since my parents are not with me and I the people around me have different schedules you are bound to be alone at some point. For example, I would take the bus to work and since I had an hour between my bus arriving and the bus I just took leaving, I would eat at a diner for breakfast or shop by myself with the sunshine as my company. My classes also started early and no one I knew had breakfast at the same time as I did, so instead I ate alone in the dining hall reading the newspaper and filling out part of the crossword. This isn’t sad it’s just what it is. People have different schedules and different things happening, so you’re bound to be alone, plus I get to catch up on the news! #woke
11.Dogs are Everywhere
Nearly everywhere I am there are dogs. So many people have dogs in college. While, I don't want a dog in college because I don't want to be responsible for it and I'd rather spend money on clothes, it's nice to pet other people’s dogs.
12.Write Thank You Notes
My family and I have always given teachers a gift or a present, so I did this again and gave Thank You notes to my teachers! They do a lot and it is nice to show appreciation, especially since they aren’t given many gifts. It might even raise your grade or result in more help.
14.Tattoo Trouble
So many people get tattoos in college. I personally am not a fan. I just hope people get a good artist (which is highly unlikely given some students’ financial state, so they go for the cheap one). Kids get tattoos to rebel and nothing says "F U, Mom and Dad!" better than a mountain range on your arm. After all, your the one who deals with the consequences and your awful tattoo of a Ralph Lauren polo Pony on your chest for the rest of your life. So, just don't be trendy and enjoy your clear skin when your old because it doesn't look like a permanent bruise unlike your peers'.
15. Living with Another Person
I have never shared a room with someone before (asides from sleepovers obviously), but this past year I did. I had to tailor my life around someone else and they had to too. When you live with someone else you need to set boundaries and discuss when those boundaries are broken. You have to give yourself and sacrifice yourself to maintain a good living situation. That means understanding that their headphones aren't charged and you must listen to Gossip Girl, you hear all their conversations, changing your bed time, and much more. Living with someone is probably one of the more important things I've learned this year.
One of the biggest regrets I have from this year is not continuing rush. I rushed the sororities on day one and on day two I decided I would not have enough time to fit a sorority into my schedule, so I stopped. I have been looking forward to Greek life for so long, whether I was planning what to get my future little, or dreaming up fun bid day themes, learning the Greek letters, and having even more lifelong friends! But, instead of doing all that, I quit. I wish I decided to keep with it because I ended up having so much time on my hands and I think it would’ve given me a community of like minded girls making college feel smaller and more familiar. So, if you’re pondering Greek life, just rush, so many girls I know have found great friends, it can only benefit you!
There is a lot to learn in a short amount of time! I'm sure my experience varies from other people's, but this just what I've learned in college.
