Summer Shenanigans 2019

This summer has been interesting, it is my first summer back from college. That means that my home friends (like from high school and stuff) have had their own schedules and it's been harder to schedule things, but that hasn't completely stopped me! I have still been able to hang out with friends and family enjoying the days.

Lifeguarding
I have been working as a lifeguard a lot this summer! The pool has been eventful once again, we've had to stay open in the cold and warm up in the chem room, clean. Hopefully, I'll explain more in a later post.

Health
Earlier this summer I went to bed writhing in pain from a sunburn. I thought "Katherine, you need to focus on your health." So, the next day I went running and went 25 days without a break, I stretched a ligament and needed it to rest, so I did and then now I run less often. I also wear sunscreen a little more. It helps when I use sparkly sunscreen. Now, I just need to cut ice cream.

Boo-FF
I've taken care of a family friend's cat this summer for two days, but it was wonderful!  Boo is getting old and I treasure any time I get to spend with my BFF!

Movies
I have watched "Book Smart" with  my family and I really enjoyed the movie. I closed my eyes for the more, um interesting parts. But, it was very fun and lighthearted.

Casa Bonita
I've also gone to Casa Bonita which was fabulous! My post about the restaurant can be read here: https://thekatherinekazette.blogspot.com/2019/07/the-best-experience-of-my-young-life.html

Nai and I!
My other good friend, Nai, and I have been with each other nearly this entire summer! It's gotten to the point that if I were to go missing, my parents would ask "Well, Where's Nai?" We've had lots of laughs discussing different topics such as make-up brushes, age, celebrities, southern accents, The Bachelor, and much more. We've gone shopping at my new fave T.J. Maxx, tried Nectar, ate at a sketchy Anthony's, and more I can't wait for!

Abby and I!
My good friend, Abby, and I hung out a bit. I even tried to help her swim for her workout. I enjoy spending time with Abby especially since we don't see each other enough. Hopefully I can visit her this upcoming year.

Day Trip
My family and I went on a day trip to Steamboat. We rented a car (I don't know why) and headed on up the beautiful landscape with fresh air filling my lungs. On the way there we stopped in Kremling to visit the grocery store. This grocery store was definitely made for cow folk: there was an aisle just for fishing and camping, when you walked in racks of highlighter yellow safety vests greeted you, and there were even acrylic cows that mood above the dairy aisle. The landscape outside was stunning there were so many colors. We also visited an artist in Kremling whose art I admired. He showed us his photographs of animals in Kremling which included a white skunk with a black foot, otters, an illusive mama mountain lion and her three kids, and a photograph of him and the furs he caught years ago. There were stories with all the photographs like how once he and his daughter were hunting and they came upon a mama bear and her baby, so they slowly walked back while her cub climbed up a tree and then down to disappear in the mountain. He was trapping in Alaska once when his friend came and they saw some animal in the water, but he didn't have the proper shoes, so instead he stood in the water without shoes and caught the animal. Crazy. We headed on our way and reached Steamboat where he stopped by my cousin's home and saw the rest of the family. We then drove back home, but stopped to get a bite to eat in Silverthorne at Sauce on the Blue. It was wonderful and I highly recommend it. I had zucchini margharita pasta and it was so yummy and wasn't heavy! So Yummy! We drove home and that was the day!

RoDayO
For the fourth of July I worked and hosted fun games at the pool. Afterwords I spent the day with my family at a rodeo. It was okay. Cowboys are hot from afar, but I really don't want to become a cow person. They also had good shaved ice. Then we left and driving home people were shooting off fireworks everywhere! We headed up a hill and viewed all the fireworks, it was gorgeous and really cool.

Erin and I
My friend Erin and I went to Snooze, a breakfast place, it was tasty! We then shopped a little afterwords! It is always super fun to hang out with Erin.

Shrek the Musical
My family and I saw a family friend perform in his theater troop's performance of Shrek the Musical. The costumes were good and there were some funny parts as well.

So, that's been my summer so far. There is much more I can't wait to do!

20 Activities for 20 year Olds

Good Morning Family and Friends! Recently I have been incredibly bored, hopefully my online classes will entertain me more. I have previously stated that I wasn’t practicing social distancing or whatever, however my mom has been making me stay inside more often and now Colorado is on lockdown. I looked up activities for 20 year olds and didn’t find anything, I guess people make these lists for stay at home moms with young children. So, I decided to make my own list for you, the audience, if you’re bored (which if you’re reading this you probably are) and looking for something to do. Read Woah, how original...read. I don’t read for pleasure often. In the summer I read The Great Gatsby  and I usually read one of Father Greg Boyle’s books some other time in the year. I also read my Vogue magazines. Two books and a magazine isn’t that much. However, since there is more time to do stuff, I figured I could read more. My brother gave me The Princess Bride to read, I’ve read a lit...

What I've Learned in College: End of Freshman Year Fun part 2

Continued from Part 1 8.Cowboys are Real Cowboys are typically seen as people who used to live in the Wild West years and years ago. I honestly think that my grandfather was one of the last American cowboys. While, I wills till continue to this this, I have learned that cowboys are still real! Every once in a while, I will see an old man sporting leather cowboy boots, a blue pair of Wrangler jeans, a button down shirt, a weathered, leather belt, a leather vest, a cowboy hat, a grown out beard, and skin weathered and tan like the leather. I didn’t think people still dressed like this besides for show! This is someone’s real life outfit! I am always astonished to see people like this because I don’t see them regularly. They look like their straight off a horse in ye old west! Students even wear cowboy boots daily! It’s something else. 9. People still pressure you. I don't drink for multiple reasons, and I was under the impression that people don't pressure people i...

Guest Post: Boys, Friendships, and Knowing who You are by Harriet Alove

I invited a close friend of mine to write a post about whatever she desired. Harriet Alove (pen name) reflects on boys and finding who she is while in college.  ------------------------------             Much like Katherine since I have been at college I have noticed a lot of new different things. I am no longer coddled by the Jesuits, no more Kairos, no more of my sisters passing me in the hallways while I’m having a meltdown during class and having them sit and talk with me ‘till I feel better. Going to one of the largest state universities in the country has truly shell shocked me. Having ‘theology of the body’ as the most of a sex ed class I’ve had, to oddly having more knowledge about Myer’s Briggs types thanks to Mr. Cook’s junior theology. However, what has shocked me the most is how lost I have felt about myself. I’m no longer a swimmer, a good old Catholic girl going to ...
