21 Birthdays

My birthday was the other day and this is year was a big one, 21! I can finally participate in every drinking, gambling, and that's it I think. However I don't desire to do those things. My genetics are soaked with alcohol and addiction. I know too many stories about people who have struggled with addiction and made, in my eyes, bad decisions, so I don't really want to participate in that. Anyways, since this is a big birthday I wanted to go back down memory lane and recall memories associated with my birthdays. Since I don't drink I'd appreciate it if you took a water shot with me!  For my first birthday I was in Kansas. I don't remember this one, but from stories and photos this is what happened. Anyways, I was baptized Episcopalian the day prior and apparently my parents woke up like an hour before it started. The next day I celebrated my birthday at my grandma's house, while we slept over at my grandpa's manor. I had a cake to eat, but my family didn...

A Comprehensive Guide to My Celebrity Crushes

Good Morning! I thought it would be fun to write a comprehensive guide to my many celebrity crushes over the years. Some of them are pretty popular paramours, while others aren't typically thought of when the word "heartthrob" is brought up, and some you probably forgot exist. I listed them in order of when I began liking them. I also added photos of each heartthrob as well as why I liked them or a memory regarding them .  I noticed while compiling this list that as I grew older I began to like boys for how they seem to act and who they seem to be instead of solely their looks. I also noticed that many of them have similar features. Anyways, enjoy! Jesse McCartney  Who didn't love Jesse McCartney?! I remember liking him around 2007. In a diary (I'm a big diary girl) I had I wrote that I had a crush on Jesse McCartney and Shia LeBouf. I had taken my diary to the kitchen to show my mom what I had written. She was on the phone talking with her friend Alicia. I put th...

The Best Podcasts You Haven't Heard

Podcasts are poppin' right now. People love to listen to people talk and people love to hear themselves talk, thus podcasts are created. So many people have begun podcasts, even I have tried to do a podcast, but I didn’t think it was very good. So, with podcasts being so popular I thought I’d list some podcasts that I enjoy. These are relatively small podcasts compared to Joe Rogan’s and anything related to crime, but that is no issue as these are just as educational and entertaining (probably, I don’t listen to crime podcasts as I get too scared and I don’t actually know who Joe Rogan is). The Catholic Feminist Podcast      I also enjoy The Catholic Feminist Podcast. I love this podcast because it's so educational, interesting, and helps me understand and open my eyes to Catholic stances and stories on social justice and other topics! It's super welcoming, non judgmental, and a podcast where it's okay to ask questions and not know everything. De...

Life Updates and Life Plans

Morning Upper East Siders....I thought that would be a fun way to start the blog today. Anyways hello. I would first like to give a BIG shout out to my Aunt Kim and my Step Grandma Charlie! Thank you to you both for reading my blog posts (way more than my parents do) and leaving detailed and considerate comments on Facebook! Hopefully, these two ladies can inspire you to give me more attention read, laugh, and explore another point of view! Anyhow, I thought it would be a good idea to write about and update everyone about what I am currently doing in life, especially since many college students have such different plans with COVID-19 being present. Also, since I’m less than two years away from graduation I wanted to share some of my many tentative plans of what I’m thinking for life after college! Life Update     Currently I am a junior in college majoring in Interior Architecture and Design, however I’m planning to change to Construction Management ...

Katherine’s Nature Tips

During quarantine I became interested in bears and how my father grew up on the western slope of Colorado. With this came questions regarding what he learned in school since he didn’t grow up like I did, in suburbia. He learned survival skills like how to send smoke signals, woodworking, skiing, hunting, finding water, and etcetera. This peaked my interest and I researched more about these survival skills, so here are two that I feel pretty well versed in. Please keep in mind I’m not an expert or liable if you get hurt. Finding Water This tip I actually got to use recently, so that’s exciting! It’s very important to find clean water because of the plethora of dangerous diseases and bacteria that can be found and make you sick. Ideally you should purify it, but if you can’t and you need to find water this what you need to do. First you need to find a water source (duh) in an isolated area (away from population and grazing animals) at a high elevation. Ensure it flows downward and at a q...

What I’ve Learned in College: Quarantine Edition

This post is a bit late, but it’s whatever. This past semester has been unconventional to say the least. I’ve been with my family and at my house for most of it. However, I didn’t mind working from home and learned a few new things along the way. Classes are WAY Easier the Second Time Around This past semester I needed to retake a few classes after getting less than stellar grades. I had to retake geology and it was much better this time around. I sat up front and my teacher was more calm. I understood information much better and there were only a few heavily weighted assignments during the whole semester which I prefer instead lots of lightly weighted assignments. Instead of a D I ended up with a B. I also retook construction. I had gotten a C prior, which is fine, but not the grade needed for the program. I made sure to stay on top of my assignments because I’m not bad at construction, but simply won’t do the assignments when I have something more stressful or I just forget abo...

20 Activities for 20 year Olds

Good Morning Family and Friends! Recently I have been incredibly bored, hopefully my online classes will entertain me more. I have previously stated that I wasn’t practicing social distancing or whatever, however my mom has been making me stay inside more often and now Colorado is on lockdown. I looked up activities for 20 year olds and didn’t find anything, I guess people make these lists for stay at home moms with young children. So, I decided to make my own list for you, the audience, if you’re bored (which if you’re reading this you probably are) and looking for something to do. Read Woah, how original...read. I don’t read for pleasure often. In the summer I read The Great Gatsby  and I usually read one of Father Greg Boyle’s books some other time in the year. I also read my Vogue magazines. Two books and a magazine isn’t that much. However, since there is more time to do stuff, I figured I could read more. My brother gave me The Princess Bride to read, I’ve read a lit...

Thankful for Gluesticks and Jesus

Yesterday (when I wrote this), I compiled a list of things I'm thankful for. This list could go on forever because I could write about everything around me and why I should be thankful. I kind of did do that tough because I should be glad I have so many things. I'm thankful for... my Clothing, it's clean, dry, warm, and fashionable. my Family, this includes my mom, dad, and brother. my Extended Family, they make me laugh and are fun to be around. my Grandma, she's sweet and is an interesting person. the ability to Hear music, animals, and talking. Snow, it's fluffy, beautiful, and cold. the ability to Dance and perform private concerts by myself, for myself. my House, it's warm, safe, clean, dry, furnished, and comfortable the ability to Laugh, it gives joy in good times and bad.  the ability to Relax without any real worries. Food, knowing I have a meal whenever I need and am able to purchase more. the ability to Read, the Bible,...

Katherine: Stand Up Comedian

My only picture from the night. As I prefaced in yesterday's blog, I have dipped my toe into the pool of stand up comedy. After months of writing jokes and getting the confidence to perform, I did it! I left for The Whiskey at 8pm. I signed up, drank a coke alone at the bar, and waited three hours to perform. I was alone because after texting with a friend I decided it'd be best to go alone in case it didn't go well. Finally, I got up on stage. I forgot a few words to the jokes, but overall I did well for my first time. I got two giggles and a laugh. I was so proud of myself. I was the youngest one there and the only one to not cuss or bring up sexual references. I felt like a celebrity afterwords! My mom posted about this on her Facebook and all her friends are very excited for me. Since I'm home for break I planned on doing more open mics, including an opportunity to perform at Comedyworks this past Tuesday. I'm excited to continue to make people smile. ...

Corona & Life Updates

Gotta get outta Gunnison county Break out of Breckie This is you if you hit the slopes. Recently, the corona virus has been the talk of the town. I personally am not worried. My cousin has a masters degree in infectious diseases and has told my dad that it's important to continue washing your hands and not go to Aspen right now, which is pretty easy to do. I'm not quarantining myself or intentionally practicing social distancing (there's not much to do besides hanging out at home), there is still so much fun to be had outdoors and with people. I'm not stocking up on stuff because I'm sure there will be more. I'm not using hand sanitizer because in elementary school we overused it and it turned my soft, seven year old hands into cracking, bloody, dry hands. I haven't been to Aspen, but I should go because I found an $88 airbnb. I still wash my hands and my parents have had our family use disinfectant wipes on our hands. I'm not that conc...
