What I've Learned in College: Sophomore Year

This past semester has really kicked me. This year I am a sophomore in Interior Architecture and Design, I've joined a sorority, lived in an apartment, and worked. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed it much more than last year, but boy oh boy I had so much on my plate. With everything going on I learned a lot and experienced new things like...

Dish Soap Doesn't Magically Refill
I don't know about you, but at my house if we are low on dish soap there seems to be a full bottle the next day as if one of Santa's little elves dropped it off. Turns out Santa's elves don't stop at apartments. I have found myself using things to the very last drop and then adding water because I may not be going to the store soon or I forgot it at my last trip. This has happened not just with dish soap, but also with toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo, conditioner, etc. I haven't solved the problem, but I do make sure to take those essentials from my real house (parents house? that sounds weird) when I'm there.

Life in the Woods is Easier

A photo withing 50-150 miles of where I'll be

Look, I get I should be more grateful for what I have and where I am, but when so many things are coming at you, you can't help but think "I wish I lived in the woods." I'd have to stop by Bass Pro Shop and get a few things then I'd go to the mountains (I'm not telling where, but I have a couple places in mind that not many people visit). Think about it, I could live in the woods as a wild girl and live off the land. I could swim in lakes and back country ski. As long as I survived 24 hours I could make it in the woods. This sounds like the life to me and my mom is even on board. The only problem would be if I were found because then I'd have to reintegrate into society and probably go back to college, ugh. Maybe I'll just purchase a small secluded cabin, I've found one I like, but it doesn't have running water or a bathroom. Although, my dad has looked into building a septic tank for me. I did it find it cold the other night when I was outside and I wasn't even in the mountains, so i'd definitely need good gear. I think I could make it because I've done quite a bit of research and brainstorming.

I Need a Nanny
Nannies are wonderful people that take care of children and the homes of families. Knowing this I've decided that I need a nanny for myself. Most people don't have nannies when they're in college because you should be able to do things yourself, however I don't have talent in this. I'd like to have a nanny, so she can wake me up, make sure I'm doing homework, clean my apartment, cook a few meals, do some laundry, drive me, make sure I'm going to bed on time, be an automatic friend, and much more! Sometimes when there is so much going on you need a little help, so I think a nanny would help a lot because she could organize my life for me. Since she'd be waking me up and later telling me to go to bed she might have to be more of an Au Pair sleeping on an air mattress in the living room, but who cares it's a free place to stay. Unfortunately, my parents didn't get me a nanny for Christmas. :(

There are a lot of Hours in a Day
Many people complain about not having enough time in the day, however that is incorrect. I recently had to stay up from 9:30pm to 8:30am to complete a project, while not enjoyable I did discover that there are about 12 hours that we don't use much during the day. Most people sleep during this time, but there are tons of other things to be doing. You could clean during that time or organize, or anything else! So, next time you're complaining about time, maybe just not sleep that night (although it really kills you for days after).

Make a Little Fun
In order to make things more enjoyable I have had small moments of happiness. One night I was working on a project in the computer lab until the wee hours of the morning. I suggested to my other classmates working there to play hide n' go seek together in the building. We did and it was so much fun. I was seen through an exterior window running on a catwalk like area to a room. That was probably my favorite part of the semester.

Vote No on Student Advertised Housing
This isn't something you use a ballot to vote for, but if money is used to vote, then vote no. I might be going into this more on my podcast, but the management companies of apartments that are marketed towards students are, to put it nicely, people I don't associate with. I moved in and my window was broken! I filed a maintenance request and one day I was opening the window (no one told me not to) and it cracked more! I checked up on my request and nothing had been done and I emphasized that this wasn't cosmetic, but a real hazard. I was told it'd be fixed September 2nd and surprise, surprise it wasn't fixed until October. It was only fixed because I had gotten the city involved to inspect my apartment and message management. Since then any other requests have been fixed the day after I put one in.

Saying I Do!
Tiffany Soleste Round Brilliant Double Halo Engagement Ring with Pink Diamonds in Platinum

I've noticed that people get engaged to or married in college or soon after which I find interesting. I just don't understand why people get married so young, like I haven't even had my first kiss (my mom says I'm late)! I understand if God has chosen the right time as then, but it still wows me. My parents got married in their 30's and my mom told me I can't get married until I'm 30, so I understand why my view to young marriage is the way it is. I just find it interesting, like how will you afford a wedding and house so young? I don't know! I'd only marry super young if it were to Justin Bieber, Zac Efron, Pete Davidson, or Timothee Chalamet. Ideally, I'd get married in my late 20's (that's like within a decade) after being established in my career. Also, my husband would be more likely to afford the ring I want.

I hope you all have enjoyed what I've learned this semester and who knows what I'll learn next semester!

God Bless!

20 Activities for 20 year Olds

Good Morning Family and Friends! Recently I have been incredibly bored, hopefully my online classes will entertain me more. I have previously stated that I wasn’t practicing social distancing or whatever, however my mom has been making me stay inside more often and now Colorado is on lockdown. I looked up activities for 20 year olds and didn’t find anything, I guess people make these lists for stay at home moms with young children. So, I decided to make my own list for you, the audience, if you’re bored (which if you’re reading this you probably are) and looking for something to do. Read Woah, how original...read. I don’t read for pleasure often. In the summer I read The Great Gatsby  and I usually read one of Father Greg Boyle’s books some other time in the year. I also read my Vogue magazines. Two books and a magazine isn’t that much. However, since there is more time to do stuff, I figured I could read more. My brother gave me The Princess Bride to read, I’ve read a lit...

The Best Experience of my Young Life: Casa Bonita

I read an article by Westword that read if Disneyland and Tijuana had a baby and left it to fend for itself in a strip mall on Colfax, it’d be Casa Bonita. I finally got to experience this gem with some of my friends, Nai and Hannah, who have also been eager to try the restaurant out.       We pulled into the packed parking lot of Casa Bonita that stood in the same shopping complex as two dollar stores and a kids dental office next door. People surrounded the outside as the fountain splashed and I took photos as rapidly as a mom on Christmas morning. This was it, the best of themed dining experiences. We entered into a very confusing entryway and found the line, but first we stopped by the bathroom, which happened to be very nice. We stood in the red velvet roped line with other epicures, such as ourselves, waiting to order at the register. The line was dark, but illuminated by Corona neons, a sign with the words “Easto Much, Peso Little”, a vi...

Things I've Found on the Ground

Family and friends, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! It has been a while since I've published a blog post, but after audience interest in the rekindling of the blog here I am at the 11th hour to ensure a numerical year doesn't go by without a post. I guess I've been gone because I've been busy or less inspired…I don't know. Anyways, for the past two years (and some months) I’ve taken pictures of things I find on the ground, some of  them are amusing, so I’ve decided to share some and write little stories for each. So, please enjoy a small collection of photos and commentary of things I’ve found on the ground.  Making Love in a Hopeless Place Where: Walmart Parking Lot When: December What: An Open Condom Wrapper Can anyone imagine a more romantic place to cement your love than a Walmart parking lot. I surely can't. Forget fireworks you have the rustle of your grocery bags in the back seat. Meanwhile the cold midnight air wafts in through your cracked windows a...
