Katherine: Stand Up Comedian

As I prefaced in yesterday's blog, I have dipped my toe into the pool of stand up comedy. After months of writing jokes and getting the confidence to perform, I did it! I left for The Whiskey at 8pm. I signed up, drank a coke alone at the bar, and waited three hours to perform. I was alone because after texting with a friend I decided it'd be best to go alone in case it didn't go well. Finally, I got up on stage. I forgot a few words to the jokes, but overall I did well for my first time. I got two giggles and a laugh. I was so proud of myself. I was the youngest one there and the only one to not cuss or bring up sexual references. I felt like a celebrity afterwords! My mom posted about this on her Facebook and all her friends are very excited for me. Since I'm home for break I planned on doing more open mics, including an opportunity to perform at Comedyworks this past Tuesday. I'm excited to continue to make people smile.

What I've Learned in College: End of Freshman Year Fun part 2

Continued from Part 1 8.Cowboys are Real Cowboys are typically seen as people who used to live in the Wild West years and years ago. I honestly think that my grandfather was one of the last American cowboys. While, I wills till continue to this this, I have learned that cowboys are still real! Every once in a while, I will see an old man sporting leather cowboy boots, a blue pair of Wrangler jeans, a button down shirt, a weathered, leather belt, a leather vest, a cowboy hat, a grown out beard, and skin weathered and tan like the leather. Major Life Advice

Recently during class I was giving an acquaintance/friend advice after being asked "How am I so happy?" and another acquaintance/friend wanted me to begin as she thought this was very important. Today I want to share part of a book (google doc) that I've been writing throughout the years that is full of advice I have received and found. Today is the Best Day of My Life This may sound crazy, but it's true, everyday is the best day of your life because you never know when life will end. I learned this from my dad who even thought it was crazy when he heard it from his friend. This advice has helped me look at the positive in every day things. For example in high school I didn't enjoy waking up around 4 am for swim practice, but when I dad told me this advice, I started thinking about it began enjoying early mornings. What I've Learned in College

As I have recently began college I have had quite the culture shock.These are things that I've learned while here, but are not usually discussed. 1. Not everyone is a Gentleman In high school, I would play a game with myself when I was in the boys division. I would see how long I could go without having to touch a door. All the young men would open them for me and once I even had a teacher apologize on behalf of some young men that failed to hold the door open for me. This game is no longer easy to play because boys (notice how I didn't use young men) do not open the door. When did it become the norm to not open a door for a young women? I even had a dad open the door for me, as his son continued walking. The young men that do open the door I always make sure to thank as I genuinely am appreciative of their effort.
