Howdy, it's Katherine!

Hello! So, I have not done an 'About Me' post in a very long time and I figured I needed to do a new one. I have had many new readers since then and while many of you know me, I thought this would still be nice. Anyways, I'm Katherine Darcy! Some people call me Darcy, some friends call me KD, my dad calls me 'beans', others call me Katherine Angel (like my grandma and her friend Barbara), but most people call me Katherine.
Currently, I live in Colorado and have been living here my whole life. I've only lived on the Front Range, however my family is from both the Western Slope and Kansas. Currently, I'm in college and would like to move to either Chicago, the Western Slope, or somewhere else cold upon graduation.
Besides blogging I enjoy swimming, golfing, hiking, bird watching, tanning, shopping, and scrolling on NextDoor. I also have been into Colorado history and reading 1800's newspapers lately.
I have been writing The Katherine Kazette since 2017, however all of my early blog posts were deleted as my mom said they weren't private enough. I still have them on a hard drive though. I started the blog just so I could share the stories in life because I really enjoy talking. Now, I like to write more article like pieces. Currently, I've been writing more compilations and series like Katherine's 7th Grade Diary and the Bachelor Recap. However, I'd really like to get more into stories again and look at the humor in everyday life. Lately, I don't think my life has been that interesting, but I know that's not true because the other day I saw a woman walking around with her pet horned lizard clenched to her boob. So I guess that's where I'd like the blog to go...more stories. However, I do like adding some different things as well. Anyways, in order to know me better I added some icebreakers below!

What's your favorite sandwich?
My favorite sandwich is either a BLT with cheddar cheese toasted on the bread and without mayonnaise (mayonnaise is gross) or a pulled pork sandwich. A restaurant in Fort Collins, whose owners are originally from Lawrence, Kansas, melt cheese on their BLTs and they're fabulous!
What kind of old person do you want to become?
I want to be a fun old person. I wanna be the old lady who has water bottles in the fridge that are actually filled with vodka. That happened to my mom once with her Aunt Kay. I also want to be very glamorous as an old lady and primarily wear candy colored Chanel suits.
I'd also like to be the grandma that's very traditional. I want to have busts of JFK, Ronald Reagan, and Donald Trump on display in my home with a sign that reads "The Greats." I think it'd be very funny because people would think I'm serious and either like or dislike it. However, I would know I just put them up as joke. I don't know, I think it's funny. I also plan to tell people about my life. Also, I think I'd like to go to grandparents day at my grandkids school and just say totally off color things that shock the 22 year old teacher.
Did you have an imaginary friend? What was his/her name?
I had many imaginary friends. I literally had a whole community of them. I don't remember all of their names, but one of them was named something like Calina. I remember once sitting on the stairs with my brother and grandma and telling her all about my imaginary friends while I was driving. I was telling her how imaginary friend 1's brother threw a pie in her face. My grandma thought that was very rude of imaginary friend 1. She also might've asked something like if that actually happened or if I did that to my brother and I said something like "No, it's imaginary." She might've said it, maybe I'm making it up. I also had an imaginary smoothie business in Australia that'd I'd fly to every night. I told everyone about it and once a friend of mine was bummed I didn't wake her up during our sleepover to take her to it. I should do a blog about all those silly stories. Also, my mom said smart people usually have imaginary friends growing up. Anyways, shout out to my imaginary friend Calina!
What is the best or worst trait you inherited from your parents?
Okay, the best traits I've inherited are my blue eyes, my four dimples, my voluptuous blonde hair, my tanned summer skin (I'm 3% Mexican! Thanks 23 and Me!), my lips, my ability to run hot and enjoy the cold, my memory, my intelligence, my creativity, my functional body, and probably some more. I'm fine with my height, but I wouldn't mind if I were like 5'6" to 5' 10". The worst trait I've inherited is my lack of a trust fund. I also don't like all of the similarities I have to my grandma that my parents point out, it worries me.
What is the most uplifting thing happening in the world right now? What is the most tragic thing?
The most uplifting thing is probably that Jesus has already came over the world and conquered death. We're truly living in a wonderful time! What's also uplifting is that every day is the best day of our lives because we never know what the next day will bring. That can be hard to practice sometimes. The most tragic thing is so many things! The situations people flee from, the ways people are persecuted, the ways people are treated, the ways people are killed, the tragedy of human trafficking, the ways people live, and more. However, as I recently read in Father Greg Boyle's book, "Barking to the Choir," that we need to view people in awe. In awe at how these people who suffer carry their weight. In awe of their experiences. That is uplifting too.
What is your favorite blog post?

Anyways, thanks for reading and feel free to comment! God Bless!

20 Activities for 20 year Olds

Good Morning Family and Friends! Recently I have been incredibly bored, hopefully my online classes will entertain me more. I have previously stated that I wasn’t practicing social distancing or whatever, however my mom has been making me stay inside more often and now Colorado is on lockdown. I looked up activities for 20 year olds and didn’t find anything, I guess people make these lists for stay at home moms with young children. So, I decided to make my own list for you, the audience, if you’re bored (which if you’re reading this you probably are) and looking for something to do. Read Woah, how original...read. I don’t read for pleasure often. In the summer I read The Great Gatsby  and I usually read one of Father Greg Boyle’s books some other time in the year. I also read my Vogue magazines. Two books and a magazine isn’t that much. However, since there is more time to do stuff, I figured I could read more. My brother gave me The Princess Bride to read, I’ve read a lit...

The Best Experience of my Young Life: Casa Bonita

I read an article by Westword that read if Disneyland and Tijuana had a baby and left it to fend for itself in a strip mall on Colfax, it’d be Casa Bonita. I finally got to experience this gem with some of my friends, Nai and Hannah, who have also been eager to try the restaurant out.       We pulled into the packed parking lot of Casa Bonita that stood in the same shopping complex as two dollar stores and a kids dental office next door. People surrounded the outside as the fountain splashed and I took photos as rapidly as a mom on Christmas morning. This was it, the best of themed dining experiences. We entered into a very confusing entryway and found the line, but first we stopped by the bathroom, which happened to be very nice. We stood in the red velvet roped line with other epicures, such as ourselves, waiting to order at the register. The line was dark, but illuminated by Corona neons, a sign with the words “Easto Much, Peso Little”, a vi...

Guest Post: Boys, Friendships, and Knowing who You are by Harriet Alove

I invited a close friend of mine to write a post about whatever she desired. Harriet Alove (pen name) reflects on boys and finding who she is while in college.  ------------------------------             Much like Katherine since I have been at college I have noticed a lot of new different things. I am no longer coddled by the Jesuits, no more Kairos, no more of my sisters passing me in the hallways while I’m having a meltdown during class and having them sit and talk with me ‘till I feel better. Going to one of the largest state universities in the country has truly shell shocked me. Having ‘theology of the body’ as the most of a sex ed class I’ve had, to oddly having more knowledge about Myer’s Briggs types thanks to Mr. Cook’s junior theology. However, what has shocked me the most is how lost I have felt about myself. I’m no longer a swimmer, a good old Catholic girl going to ...
